Are applications being accepted for low-income housing?
The list for two- and three-bedroom apartments in low-income housing
and Section 8 Choice Voucher Program are closed. APPLICATIONS ARE NOT BEING ACCEPTED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Where can I get an application?
You can print a Low-Income Housing Application, Senior Citizen Application, or Section 8 Voucher Program Rent Subsidy Application out from here. You can also call or email to have an application mailed to you, or you can pick an application up at the Housing Authority office.

How do I apply for public housing?

Families wishing to apply for the Public Housing Program will be required to complete an application for housing assistance. Applications may be made in person at the Housing Authority's administrative offices on Monday through Friday, except holidays, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Applications will be mailed to interested families upon request. For more detailed information regarding the application process, go to our application process page.

How do I know if I'm eligible for public housing?

There are five eligibility requirements for admission to public housing: qualifies as a family, has an income within the income limits, meets citizenship/eligible immigrant criteria, provides documentation of Social Security numbers, and signs consent authorization documents. In addition to the eligibility criteria, families must also meet the Housing Authority's screening criteria in order to be admitted to public housing.

How does the Housing Authority select and assign tenants?
The Housing Authority will select families based on the following preferences within each bedroom size category.

Preference No. 1 - Involuntarily Displaced Local Residents
Preference No. 2 - Displaced Local Residents Who Are Victims of Domestic Violence
Preference No. 3 - Residents Who Live and Work in the Housing Authority's Jurisdiction
Preference No. 4 - Residents Who Live in the Jurisdiction of the Housing Authority
Preference No. 5 - Involuntary Displaced Non-Local Residents
Preference No. 6 - Displaced Non-Residents (Not Residing Within the HA's Jurisdiction) Who are Victims of Domestic Violence
Preference No. 7 - Nonresidents Who Work in the Housing Authority's Jurisdiction

What are rents based on?
Rents are based on 30% of the annual gross income.

Are utilities included?
All utilities are included except for a $4.00 per month/per utility charge for the following: air conditioners (all buildings), washing machines (low-income only), dryers (low-income only).

Are pets allowed?
Pets are allowed with a $300.00 per pet security deposit.

Is transportation available?
Bus transportation to the local Pathmark, Shop-Rite, Mill Creek Mall, etc. is provided with pick-up and drop-off at the three senior buildings. In addition, scheduled van transportation for doctor's appointments is available.

Are Meals on Wheels available?
Yes, Meals on Wheels are available.

Are there medical personnel on staff?
There is a nurse on staff for consultation with residents. The nurse also does monthly blood pressure screenings.

Is there a nutritionist on staff?
Yes, there is a nutritionist on staff for consultation with residents.

Is there a counselor on staff?
Yes, there is a counselor on staff who meets weekly with the children of Meadowview Village as part of the Drug Elimination Program.

Are children's programs offered?
There is a pre-school parent/child program for low-income residents.

What kind of background checks are done on applicants?
All applicants are subject to a credit and criminal background check.

Is a security deposit required?
A one-month security equal to monthly rent is required unless the monthly rent is less than $100, in which case a $100 minimum security is required.

What if I move after I apply for housing?
If you move after you apply for housing, you must notify the Housing Authority of your new address in order to be contacted.

Who is eligible to apply for Senior Housing?
To apply for Senior Housing you must be 62 years of age or older or on permanent disability.

Are there services for non-English speaking applicants and residents?
The Housing Authority will endeavor to have bilingual staff or access to people who speak languages other than English in order to assist non-English speaking families. The following languages shall be covered: Spanish, Italian.
